Ted began his rowing career in High School and quickly found that the sport offered so much more than he expected – discipline, time management, physical fitness and team-building, all from a community boathouse. Ted has taken that initial experience with him throughout his rowing and coaching career, and has developed his own coaching philosophy and style which encourages the same transformative experience for his youth and adult rowers.
Ted sums up his outlook: “It is all about the kids and adults rowing and growing! I implement well-organized, time efficient, maximum effort practices from the time athletes arrive to the time the athletes leave. It is pretty intense, so bring your game face and a towel! I am very passionate about all aspects of the sport, from learning mindful technique, to boat maintenance and care, all while having a good time. I create an atmosphere that includes positive reinforcement and encouragement, so the athletes can expect to create the building blocks necessary to achieve personal and team success.”
Ted’s coaching career has kept him in the state of Florida, beginning as Assistant Coach at the Bolles School in Jacksonville from 1999-2003, then Head Coach from 2003-2010. Ted moved to Stanton-River Bank Rowing, also in Jacksonville, and served as Head Coach from 2010-2014. Most recently Ted was the Head Men’s Varsity Coach at Sarasota Scullers and worked as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor at the YMCA in Sarasota, FL. He holds a USRowing Level III Coaching certificate, is an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Concept2 Indoor Rowing Instructor.
